FAQ & Notes

Accounts & Access

Do I need a paid Icecat subscription? No. A free Open Icecat account (username only) imports products from Icecat's sponsoring brands. A paid Full Icecat subscription (username + App Key) unlocks the complete catalog. See Icecat Account.

A search fails with "To access Full Icecat content, an app_key is required." — what does it mean? The product you searched is only available in Full Icecat. Add your Full Icecat App Key on the Account tab, or search a product covered by Open Icecat.

What about "Product has brand restrictions or access is limited"? That brand restricts its content for your account level — typically it's available only to Full Icecat subscribers or brand-authorized users.

Why does the plugin say my App Key "could not be verified"? The key didn't unlock Full Icecat content during the live check — it is mistyped, expired, or belongs to a different account. Copy it fresh from your My Profile page, or clear the field to keep using free Open Icecat.

Searching & Importing

Which search identifiers work? Three methods: the Icecat ID (the number in every icecat.biz product URL), the GTIN (the EAN/UPC barcode number), or the Product Code & Brand (manufacturer part number plus brand name). Unknown identifiers land on the No Product Found screen, which quotes Icecat's exact reason — for GTINs typically "The GTIN can not be found", and for product codes "The requested product is not present in the Icecat database".

Can I import the same catalog product twice? No — the review screen detects it ("We have already this product in our store with product ID - N") and offers Update Existing Product instead of a create button, refreshing the existing product with the fetched data. See Update Products for the other ways to keep imports current.

Does the connector set prices? No. Icecat supplies content — descriptions, images, specifications — not pricing. Set prices in the WooCommerce product editor; that's a good reason to keep the Product Status setting on Draft or Pending Review.

Which product type is created? Simple products. The IceCat Details box on the product edit page also appears only on simple products.

Can I import in my language? Yes — roughly 80 catalog languages are available on every search and bulk import. Note that content coverage varies by language in the Icecat catalog itself; the connector falls back to English only when no language is set at all.

Bulk Import

My CSV is rejected as "Invalid CSV format" — why? The headers must match the sample files: icecat_id, gstin, or product_code + brand, each optionally with woo_product_id for updates. Header names are case-insensitive and column order doesn't matter — but note the GTIN header is spelled gstin, exactly as in the downloadable samples. See Bulk Import.

How big can the CSV be? 5 MB per file. Split larger files — the error "The CSV file is too large. Please split it into smaller files." tells you when.

Can I run two imports at once? No — a second import while one is running shows "An import is already in progress. Please wait for it to finish." Watch the current run via the View Progress button.

Some rows failed. Now what? When a run completes with failures, click Download Failed Items in the progress dialog. You get a failed_items.csv of just the failed rows — fix the identifiers and re-import that file.

Background Processing

My new product has no images yet — is something broken? With Import Product Images: In The Background (the default), the gallery downloads after the product is created. The product list shows "Product images are importing in the background. N images left." until the queue drains — usually within a few minutes.

The background queue seems stuck. Background jobs ride on WordPress cron and loopback requests. If images stay queued for a long time, check that your host allows loopback HTTP requests and that WP-Cron isn't disabled without a system cron replacement.

Data & Cleanup

What happens when I delete an imported product? Deleting it permanently (connector Delete action, or emptying the trash in WooCommerce) also deletes its downloaded Icecat images from the Media Library and removes it from the connector's product list.

Does an update overwrite my edits? An update re-applies catalog content: title, descriptions, images, and attributes. Prices, stock adjustments, and reviews are untouched. If you hand-edit imported descriptions, avoid running updates on those products.

Compatibility

Is the plugin HPOS-compatible? Yes — it declares compatibility with WooCommerce High-Performance Order Storage and with cart/checkout blocks.

Supported versions? WordPress 6.7–7.0, WooCommerce 10.0–11.0, PHP 7.4–8.4.
