Frequently Asked Questions
What are the system requirements?
WooCommerce POS 7.2.0 needs WordPress 6.5+, WooCommerce 9.1+, and PHP 7.4+. The register runs in a modern browser on a device with at least a 7.5-inch screen and 1280 px display width. See system requirements.
Does the POS work offline?
Yes. With Master Stock inventory, the register keeps selling while the connection is down, and orders sync back with the offline sync button or the Auto Sync setting. Coupons and customer account changes need an online connection. See offline orders.
Which product types are supported?
Simple and Variable products. Backorders are not supported at the register. See product limitations.
Why do POS pages return a 404 error?
Flush the permalinks: go to Settings → Permalinks in WordPress admin and click Save Changes. This rebuilds the URL rules the POS routes depend on. See troubleshooting.
How do I close the register at the end of the day?
Use Cashier → Close Counter to reconcile the drawer, then generate and print the Z-Report for the shift. See Z-Report generation and printing.
Is the POS compatible with HPOS and multisite?
Yes — WooCommerce High-Performance Order Storage and WordPress multisite are both supported. See compatibility notes.
How do I update the plugin?
Updates for Webkul modules appear on the WordPress Plugins page once your license is active. See license activation.
How do refunds and returns work at the POS?
Cashiers manage returns from the register, and refund details for online orders are also visible at the POS. See managing returns.
Known Limitations and Workarounds
| Limitation | Workaround |
|---|---|
| Only Simple and Variable products are supported | Keep POS catalogs to these product types; other types stay available in the online store |
| Backorders are not supported at the register | Manage backorder sales through the WooCommerce online checkout |
| Coupons cannot be applied in offline mode | Apply a manual discount offline, or reconnect before applying the coupon |
| Customers cannot be added or edited in offline mode | Complete the sale with the default customer and update customer details once online |
| Centralized Stock inventory cannot process offline orders | Use Master Stock inventory for outlets that need offline selling |
| Screens narrower than 1280 px are not fully supported yet | Use a device that meets the minimum display width; 768 px support is in progress |
Search Tips
The documentation uses some terms interchangeably with everyday store language — searching either form works better with these guides in mind:
| If you call it… | The docs call it… |
|---|---|
| Cashier, sales agent | POS agent, POS user |
| Store, branch, location | Outlet |
| Register session, till session | Cash drawer session |
| Receipt printer | Invoice printer, thermal printer |
| Card reader, card machine | Payment terminal |
| Return | Refund, return |
| Stock | Inventory, Master Stock |
If a search returns nothing, try the FAQ, the Troubleshooting index, or browse the topics above.
